  1. The use of ICT as a learning and reflective tool is very evident in the classroom. The pupils are motivated to conduct self-directed learning through the tools that they are empowered with in the classroom.

It has been a most pleasurable experience to visit a school with the passion to learn and innovate. Though young in its age, the vision of the school has to been set years ahead. All the best!

  2. It has been an insightful visit. The idea of using the Apple applications to support in the teaching and learning process is indeed innovative. I especially am impressed with the thinking put behind the developing of the curriculum and how performance tasks are developed to ensure learning takes place. The environment set and the structures put in place are indeed conducive to learning. I am sure the students and the teachers have a very fruitful journey ahead of them. All the best and well done!

  3. Well done SST! I think the vision and mission of the school is really preparing our children for the 21st century. I will be using some of the ideas back in my school, even though I come from the primary school.

I feel that the selection criteria could be made known to us. Do the parents know why their children are selected? Do the parents whose child are not selected know why they are not selected?

Do boys display certain traits that the school is looking for? Does that explain why there are more boys than girls?

I wish you all the best in your contribution to the Singapore's education system.

  4. Thought that the environment that the school has created is a clear example of what can be achieved with a clear vision and the willingness to put in the work necessary to get there. The 'young men/women' have an environment where desired traits and behaviours are encouraged both by teachers and fellow students alike.

I like what is happening here

  5. It has been an enriching and meaningful visit and I am very impressed by the school's programmes. The classroom observation has been an eye-opener which really shows the possibilities that technologies can offer for our students. With a group of dedicated teachers, I am very sure the SST team will be able to achieve its goals.

  6. Thank you for the enriching session. It has been enlightening to see how ICT is being integrated in all subject areas. It's also very encouraging to note that teachers make the extra effort to ensure that ICT is a perpetual and integral part of each lesson.
Being the C&T HOD, I'm glad to note that even though Home Economics or F&N is not included in your curriculum, there is the effort to bring in aspects of the subject under Sports and Wellness. Since I'm also the IPW i/c in my school, I would like to extend an invitation to your school to take part in Project work undertaken by Asia-Europe Classroom-Net where project works between Asian and European schools are established. Do check out the URL: http://asef.aec.org

    Thank you once again

  7. Thank you for your hospitality and a very insightful sharing session. I'm impressed with the culture that you've built up in your school within such a short time - the students whom I observed communicated confidently, worked with initiative and were comfortable in handling ambiguity in their tasks. The teacher had designed an engaging, hands-on lesson which the kids enjoyed. These are some fundamental qualities that will help your pupils achieve much, together with your school.

Dear Staff and Pupils at SST,

Thank you for a wonderful morning. I had fun watching you at work in the language class. Think about how music can be infused in the teaching of language. Singing and Reading are much the same. Achieving proper phrasing with a clear sense of rhythm and dynamic will help you become a better reader. You can also monitor the sound waves when you read or sing. Have fun!

  9. A big thank you to SST for hosting us today.

I found this visit rather inspiring not just in terms of potential lesson ideas to bring back to my school but it also hit home more philsophically in terms of the purpose of schooling. SST stands as a good example of bringing out the self directedness and collaboration in students.

I wish SST all the best and look forward to your continued innovations in teaching and learning.

    Best rgds,
    Hongming

  10. I was in group 2 and I liked the interaction and the engagement of the students in the Biology lesson. A good use of ICT and students are task to use google to find the function of the organ and the "what if " this organ is missing...

    Well done.

  11. Wow! It has been an enriching experience for us at SST. All of you are truly innovators and edu-prenurs in blazing new grounds in science and technology education. I am amazed at the ICT enabled environment that you have created for the students. The rationale and beliefs of SST are very strong. You definitely have a strong group of visionary leaders and dedicated teachers for this journey to become an institution of excellence.
    Kudos to all! : )

  12. I like the idea of using Facebook application for the Higher Chinese class. It's relevant to the current generation and the pupils are adept at it. I suppose it can be used during the lesson to post their reflections on the teacher's wall and feedback can be immediate. If only our schools can have the luxury of Macbooks for every child.

  13. Watched the Math class. I'm impressed by the students' spontaneity and positive responses. For eg, when the sound system didn't quite work out, it didn't take long for a student to suggest moving the chairs to the front. The others responded by moving quickly and the teacher acknowledged this as initiative. Content was also used to highlight the spirit of innovation. The students identified our modern number system as an innovation and the teacher leveraged on that response to elicit responses on how we had innovated - simplified systems, taken the best of the older systems, etc. Indeed an integrated program of values and content :)

  14. Thank you for being so open with your sharing.
The sch is really trying to cover many aspects with the innovative curriculum yet the need to consider national expectations. What left a greater impression for me is that the philosophy of not just teaching for result, but to educate person holistically and in the words of SST- prepare them for the world. Thinking hard how can that be applied in context of my school.

  16. Well Done SST! Your curriculum really prepares the students for the world. The use of ICT encourages self-directed learning which is evident in Charles' Biology classroom. The experienced curriculum supports MOE's C2015 Student Outcome.

It has been a memorable and enriching visit to this school. I learn a new thing especially the way teaching and learning done in the classroom. As one of the Bruneian participants in this MLS program, I am very fortunate to have this opportunity to visit and see for my self. Wish this school good luck and success.

  18. Thank you SST for the experience.

It was delightful to observe Mr Johari's lesson and see the way the school has waived its school vision, mission and values into the interactions. My question however stands. How did the school managed to so quickly build up the learning environment so that pupils already exhibit some of the desired values. I am really curious about the programmes that build up to the lessons we observed.

  19. Thank you for the sharing. From conceptualisation to actualisation, the school has certainly overcome a lot of constraints. I can definitely see active learning and student engagement happening in the classroom. I will look forward to seeing the eventual full implementation of the upper sec curriculum. SST will certainly lead the front for ICT-enabled learning and applied learning.

  20. The I & E culture is very strong in the school. The pupils in the Math class can articulate what is innovation in the real life context. I hope that I will be able to send my Math teachers to immerse in your school's ICT culture. Maybe for teaching experience. Maybe that is some way you can help to build up the ICT skills of the teachers in MOE.

Thank you very much for hosting us and sharing with us your vision.

  21. Interesting to know that the school have put all the theory portion into the real world. It take very time for the staff to come out with the lesson for every subject and more difficult to combine all their learning from different subjects together for better understand. If students can have AEM module for them to take where they can take lesser module in Poly that would be more advantage. Just wonder I cost lot for students and school to be in this school, students edusave wouldn't be suffient for them last for four years and parent need to support them a lot if no school support.

  22. SST has managed to establish a school culture where students are communicative and very ready to contribute in class. What is clear is that there is a protocol and structure established and students understand the need to stay focused, putting away the laptop and listening when required.

  23. All the best to you, SST! I wish you success, that other school leaders may learn from you - develop awareness and have the courage to do things differently (when needed) for the good of our students!
